Healthy sinus tips

Cold and wet winter weather can bring out sinus issues. Here are some tips to help ease congestion or pressure:

1. Look at your diet, animal dairy can cause extra congestion during flare ups. Eliminate the animal dairy for few days until the congestion clears up. Excessive moisture in the body can lead to excessive fluid in the nasal cavities. Look at your diet for other foods that cause dampness in the body.

2. Eliminate processed foods that are sugar loaded to help control inflammation during the flares. In addition to the suggestion given in this blog, look into posible food sensitivities that can cause sinus congestion, headaches, migranes, pressure and a whole lot of weird symptoms. There are tests that can be done to help with these problems and finding root causes.

3. Make sure to hydrate thorough out the day. Water is necessary to promote healing.

4. Find over the counter a baking soda/ saline solution made by Arm & Hammer that is gentle enough to irrigate the nostrils once daily to remove mucus buildup. Research has shown that inside the sinus, there can be a buildup of not just bacteria, but other pathogens like fungal and mold toxins that may irritate the sinus cavities.

5. Below, find a tincture that can be steam with distilled water to help with sinus congestion. Use before bed time. Tincture for sinus congestion recipe

In a clean glass jar with tight plastic lid, mix well all the essential oils listed below:

1/2 teaspoon of eucalyptus essential oil,

3 drops of peppermint essential oil

2 drops of lavender essential oil

2 drops of pine essential oil

Now when ready to use, measure half teaspoon of the sinus tincture with 2 cup of boiling distilled water.  Place all these ingredients in a heat proof bowl.  Next get a large enough hand towel to place over the bowl.  Center your NOSE over the bowl, but DO NOT LET YOUR EYES come in contact with the vapors of these oils, because it will cause eye irritation. Cover your nose with the towel and let steam rise through your nose and sinuses for about 4-5 minutes or until the steam ceases to rise or solution becomes room temperature.  Discard the diluted solution and wipe the moist off your face.  This tincture has helped me many times, and I use it only as needed few times a year.
